Reading Comprehension Tools and Strategies

Reading Comprehension Steps:

1. Make Predictions - What is the media/text going to be about? - use the probable passage handout if you'd like

2. Ask Questions (while reading/viewing) - What is happening? - use the stem starters for questioning text if you'd like

3. Make Inferences - What is happening that the author is not specifically saying, but you can make an inference about?

4. Summarize - Make short summaries while you are reading/viewing and/or make one longer one at the end. You can use the Somebody wanted but so hand out

5. Connect - What does the text/media make you think about in your own life? What does the text/media remind you of in another text/media? What does the text/media make you think about the world?
